Green and Red Bicycles

These green and red bicycles were parked in tandem at a bicycle parking rack. The color of the bikes are very striking and seemed to be able to attract a lot of attention. The advantage of using a very striking colored bikes is that it will help deter anyone from stealing the bikes because the bikes can be easily identified by their owners since not many bikes are painted in such colors.

This type of bicycle is commonly known as fixie or fixed-wheel. These bicycles have no freewheel and thus they cannot coast as the pedals are always in motion when the bicycles are moving. The sprocket or cog is bolted directly to a fixed rear hub. This allows a cyclist to stop without using a brake, by resisting the rotation of the cranks, and also to ride in reverse.

Bike to Work Day

May 21st was the bike to work day which marked the end of bike week. By using bike, you can save money and also increase your fitness level.

However, in Malaysia, biking to work seems to be an arduous tasks because of the hot and humid weather. By the time you arrive at your office, you will be soaked up with your own sweat and will feel uncomfortable for the rest of the day. Not only that, when it is raining, biking seemed to be the last mode of transport to use to go to work.

However, bicycling can be a good exercise during the weekend or during after office hours. 

Police on Bicycle

Congratulation to people in Sabah because sooner they will see more policemen in Sabah patrols their cities on bicycle.

By using bicycle, police will be able to have more interaction with locals and thus will be able to fight crime effectively. By using bicycle, the policemen will be able to keep themselves fit and healthy.

Hopefully, the policemen will get a state of the art all-terrain bicycle to make their duties more meaningful.

Traffic Jam in Shanghai

This picture shows the interaction between different types of vehicles at a junction. Not sure what type of junction this is. Since it is a four way junction, I think it should be a traffic light junction. But, there are traffic conflict between crossing traffic causing a little bit of gridlock.

It seemed that traffic from all directions wanted to enter the junction. It must be a scary experience for the bicycle riders since they have to cross this junction. Usually, if the road is this big, bicycle is banned from using the road to prevent severe accidents from happening.
