I Think The New Terminal is Ready

Today the (Integrated Transportation Terminal-Bandar Tasik Selatan (ITT-BTS) terminal supposed to be fully operational. All of the ticketing counters are ready to serve their customers.

The New Opening Date for the Renovated Puduraya Bus Station

Well the new opening of the renovated Puduraya bus station is postponed to April 16 due to some more works need to be carried out by the contractors.


I am eager to know the effect of the renovation on the passengers comfort and safety besides the effect of the bus station on traffic congestion of the surrounding area.

Unless the bus parking bays are increased, buses will park outside the bus station and causing severe traffic congestion.

The station was closed in April 2010 for RM52 Million upgrading works, but the works were delayed due to additional work on the base of the building.


The Cabinet has directed both Integrated Transportation Terminal-Bandar Tasik Selatan (ITT-BTS) and Puduraya to be operational on March 1.

Improving Bus Terminals

Another effort proposed by the commission is to introduce electronic ticketing system at all bus terminals nationwide as well as implement proper arrival and departure bays. The proposal is good in order to prevent touts activity and to provide convenience to passengers. The proposal should be made as benchmark for constructing future bus terminals.

Hope that the commission will also look into other critical issues regarding public transportation system such as interconnectivity issues, reliability of services, cleanliness and passengers' safety.

Interconnectivity issues should be addressed properly in order to attract more passengers using public transport. For example, as announced before that Integrated Transportation Terminal- Bandar Tasik Selatan (ITT-BTS) will cater to southbound express buses while northbound express buses will use Pudu Raya. It is important to highlight the interconnectivity issues between the two terminals so that passengers who happen to require transferring between the two terminals will be able to do so seamlessly and effortlessly. Interconnectivity among different public transportation services and facilities should also be emphasized further. 

Currently, the departure and arrival time of buses are not being addressed properly. As opposed to the operation of public transport in most developed countries, the delays in term of departure and arrival times here can be more than acceptable. The authority should ensure that the compliance in term of arriving and departing according to the stipulated time should be made as part of the contractual basis to renew the public transportation operators' future licenses. The arrival and departure time should be announced publicly in order to facilitate users planned their travelling itineraries. 

Also, the operators of the bus terminals should ensure the cleanliness and safety of the bus terminals. The facility for disabled should also be provided at all of the bus terminals nationwide.

Until now all of the above issues are left to the operators to handle but as usual there are so many excuses being given such as traffic congestion is so bad causing our buses to be delayed beyond comprehension. Hopefully, with the initiative of the commission will ensure that the quality of public transportation in Malaysia can be further improved.

The Renovated Puduraya Bus Station

The renovated Puduraya bus station will reopen on Feb 2. The total cost of renovation is 52  Million Ringgit. The Puduraya bus station started operation since 1976.

Passengers travelling North-Bound will have to go to the Puduraya bus station to catch a bus whereas passengers traveling South-Bound will have to go to the Terminal Bersepadu Selatan - Bandar Tasik Selatan.

The station was closed since April 2010 to uplift the operating condition of the facility.

Among the new features of the facility are as follows:

1) Fully air-conditioned passengers waiting area located at the ground floor. Passengers will be relieved since they don't have to inhale toxic bus emission as before.
2) Two escalators heading to the basement where buses are parked and one travellator from a new main entrance to the ground floor.
3) Two passenger lifts from the main entrance and four escalators to the second floor.
4) Ticket counters located on the first floor.
5) A prayer room (a surau) located on the second floor
6) Food court located on the fourth floor.
7) CCTV cameras are installed for passengers safety.

The reopening of the renovated Puduraya Bus station is eagerly waited by bus users. However, there are yet several other issues that need further attentions such as congestion issues due to inbound and outbound bus movements in the CBD area. Also, there is no indication on how the touts problems will be resolved. Hopefully, the Puduraya Bus Station management will put in place the preventive maintenance strategies to prevent the newly renovated facility from becoming run down again.

Terminal Bersepadu Selatan - Bandar Tasik Selatan

The Terminal Bersepadu Selatan - Bandar Tasik Selatan or Integrated Transportation Terminal Bandar Tasik Selatan (ITT-BTS) started operations on the 1st January 2010.

The terminal is operated by Maju TMAS (Terminal Management and Services). The operator of the terminal had promised that the state-of-the art services offered at the terminal will be the first in the country to provide comfort and convenient to the public.

However, out of 51 bus companies, only eight companies started their operation at the terminal since Jan 1. There seemed to be something bothering the remaining bus companies from operating at the new terminal.

In order to operate the facilities, the operator imposes charges to bus companies. However, several bus companies disputed the additional charges because they said that the facilities were built using tax payers money. The bus companies should realize that the terminal operator had to impose charges in order to run and manage the facilities efficiently.


Unfortunately, there is no such signage yet at the terminal. Soon there will be because there is no ticketing system implemented for taxi at the terminal. Taxis have to use their metered system and it can be subjected to touts' activities.
The bus companies also disputed the implementation of the e-ticketing system at the terminal. In order to prevent touts, bus passengers are required to get their ticket at the terminal and additional charges were being imposed to the passengers for the e-ticket even though they had purchased their ticket online using the bus operators' online ticketing system. There seemed to be no integration and coordination done by the terminal operator with the bus companies' e-ticketing system.

The chaotic and non-systematic e-ticketing system, as claimed by the bus operators, would affect the smooth issuance of ticket to passengers during the upcoming festive season if the e-ticketing issues are not being tackled immediately. The terminal would be jam packed by users in order to get their tickets and causes severe congestion.

The Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) had been instructed to meet with the terminal operator and bus companies to resolve disputes over the issues. Read HERE for more news.

As of now, the wishes of the terminal operator to provide convenience and comfort of the public are yet to be ascertained. Hopefully, the issues will be resolved soon so that all bus companies will start using the facility and the public will gain a lot of benefits from the initiative.

It is already high time for Malaysia to have such a facility with the state-of-the art system.
Hopefully, the 570 million state-of-the-art facility will serve it intended purpose.

Terminal Bersepadu Selatan

Newly completed Integrated Terminal namely Terminal Bersepadu Selatan-Bandar Tasik Selatan (TBS-BTS) is expected to start operating early next year. The terminal will provide services to bus and taxi passengers travelling from Kuala Lumpur to North and South of the Peninsular Malaysia. The terminal will be equipped with Customer Service Counter, e-ticket counter, etc.

According to today's news report, the terminal is a six-storey building housing 55 bus platforms, 150 taxi bays, 1000 parking facilities and air-conditioned waiting areas. The terminal is built in an area of about 19.6 hectare.

Another ITT

Malaysia will have another Integrated Transport Terminal (ITT) soon as published in the news recently. The ITT will be located in Gombak just near the Putra LRT Terminal in Gombak.

The terminal is expected to be in operation early next year and the terminal will cater for Northbound and Eastbound buses. The operations of these buses in Gombak ITT will help reducing traffic congestion in the city center.

Hopefully the Gombak ITT will be built as planned and hopefully, all of the user friendliness about the facility could be materialized next year.

However, hopefully the relevant authority will not forget about interconnectivity such as the mobility of passengers from the ITT to other locations within the area.

Bukit Jalil is Now an Express Bus Terminal

Bukit Jalil is now become express bus terminal for North and South bound passengers. This if following the four-month closure of the Puduraya Bus terminal to facilitate major upgrading and renovation works at the terminal.

However, as usual, most users are unaware of the changes and causing them to unable to find any buses at the Puduraya Terminal. However, there is a dedicated bus services to transport passengers from Puduraya to Bukit Jalil with a very minimal fee.

So, for those of you who are planning to head North or South, don't forget to go to Bukit Jalil Compleks Parking Lot F (of course until further notice of future changes).
