Flash Flood and Traffic Jam

Flash Flood
Whenever there is a heavy down pour, flash flood will occur causes massive traffic jam during rush hour. Causes of the flash flood is due to inadequate drainage system to quickly flush water from the area. It is just a matter of identifying the affected area and start working on widening the drainage system to prevent the occurrences of flash flood which causes frustration and stress among motorists.

Usually traffic will stand still for several hours because small vehicles just cannot pass through the flooded section safely. The experiences cause motorists to arrive late for their appointment and also to their respective work place.

Flood Control

During high tide, flooding usually occurs due to water overflowing into the river tributaries as the results of high tide from the main river. In order to prevent flooding from occurring every time the tide is very high, the water level of the river tributaries need to be controlled using tidal gate. Once the tidal gate is in place and functioning, a lot of things can be constructed from the previously river tributaries. For example, pathway can be constructed on top of the river tributaries.

The picture below shows water level during high tide along Batang Lupar.

The picture below shows the tidal gate releasing water into the main river (Btg Lupar) during low tide. When constructing the tidal gate, ensure that the tidal gate is constructed above the low tide of the main river, otherwise the tidal gate will never ever being able to automatically open to release the water from the river tributaries.

Even during low tide, the tidal gate is being shut to prevent the water from the main river from entering the tributaries.
As the tide getting higher, the tidal gate played its major role preventing water from the main river from entering the tributaries which eventually controls the inner land from being flooded. It is very important to ensure that the tidal gate always functioning by carrying out periodic maintenance.

Futuristic Cities

Flooding due to rising sea water level as aresult of global warming, disaster due to earthquake, forest fires, severe congestion, overcrowding cities, etc. Almost all of large cities in the near future will face one of these problems. One way to solve this problem is to built a new satellite cities which will have all of the characteristics that will be resistant to any of the current problems plaguing the cities. For example, in Turkey, they are visualising of building a satellite building that will be a refuge in case of severe earthquake stiking Istanbul. The proposed city will be built using earthquake resistant building and wide street as a mean of sending resques and aids to the city in case an event of earthquake is happenign. For more detail review of the proposed satellite city refer to Purdue University. "Proposed New City Of Istanbul Could Be Refuge In Case Of Severe Earthquake." Flood Risk

Engineers are anticipating for a major flood in California's Central Valley. They observed existing scenario, they predict, they plan and hoping for the disaster not to happen in the future.

California flood risks are 'disaster waiting to happen,' say engineers from PhysOrg.com

While flooding in California's Central Valley is "the next big disaster waiting to happen," water-related infrastructure issues confront almost every community across the country, according to engineers at the University of Maryland's Clark School of Engineering in separate reports to California officials and in the journal Science.
