Opticians Vs. Optometrists

Today I learned something new regarding the differences between Opticians and Optometrists. One big difference is Optometrists can prescribed contact lenses whereas Opticians cannot. Only optometrists can prescribed contact lenses to ensure that they are competent enough to deal with possible contact lens complications and side effects.

According to the Association of Malaysian Optometrists, prescribing and dispensing contact lenses required tertiary level training in the basic and applied science such as microbiology, physiology, ocular pathology, ocular anatomy and biochemistry.

The other difference is that Optometrists are bachelor degree holders, whereas Opticians had only passed Diploma or certificate levels.

There are about 900,000 contact lens wearers in Malaysia. So next time before you wanted to prescribed your contact lens, make sure that you are dealing with an optometrists. The only question now is that how would you know the differences. Will it be from his age, his attire, or what? Ah, so confusing.

It will be much easier to wear my pair of glasses then since any of them is eligible to prescribe the glasses.

Pay Phone

I saw this pay phone at KLIA. May be we can carry out a simple survey to study number of people actually using the phone nowadays given that almost everybody has hand phone.

It would be interesting to know the number of people who are still using the pay phone and the reason for them to use it. In my opinion, there would be some reason why the pay phone is still relevant nowadays. Firstly, for tourists, even though they carry their hand phone but the roaming charges can be exorbitant and the only simple solution is to call via pay phone. Those who cannot utilise their roaming services really pray that there is a pay phone nearby to make any phone call.

For those who are under privilege such as children, elders, etc., the pay phone should be handy for them to make any phone call regardless whether the call is an emergency or not. School children will find the pay phone to be very useful to make any phone call to their parents.

Biometric System in Full Force

Biometric system has been implemented at all immigration entry points to better monitor person coming in and out of Malaysia. The biometric system was introduced a few days ago. Hopefully the system will ensure smooth entry and exit processes at all of the entry points. Also, the system would deter any syndicates from helping others to forge important travel documents.

KLIA Aerotrain Back in Operation

After several months of inoperation, the aerotrains are running again transferring passengers back and forth between the two terminals at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

KLIA Aerotrain

The trains are in a good shape now after being refurbished recently. With the new depot being built, each of the train will be maintained periodically, which will prolong the train's life.
